About

I sold the instruments your buyers already own

I am Matthew McGann, President and Owner of Particle Analytx. For eighteen years I sold and marketed analytical instrumentation — specifying it, demonstrating it, and losing deals to incumbents — before starting this practice. That is the whole credential: I have been the technical specialist in the room and the market specialist in the plan, and I know which one your buyer is listening to.

The problem I set up to solve

Two kinds of agency, both wrong for this market

Technical agencies write accurate material that nobody acts on. Commercial agencies write persuasive material that a scientist discards in one sentence. Science buyers are unusually good at spotting the difference, and they punish it by ignoring you.

Most of what I do is translation. Your technology has a real advantage; it needs stating in terms that a formulation scientist finds credible and a procurement lead finds justifiable. Those are different sentences about the same instrument, and getting both right is the job.

Background

Where the experience comes from

  1. Eighteen years in analytical instrumentation

Sales and marketing across biopharma, pharma, biotech, specialty chemicals and materials science.

Techniques sold and supported span chromatography (SEC-MALS, GPC, HPLC, preparative and flash liquid chromatography, supercritical fluid chromatography) for protein, peptide and biopolymer purification and characterisation; light scattering (DLS, SLS, MALS and nanoparticle tracking analysis) for particle size, molecular weight, PDI and zeta potential; spectroscopy (Raman and morphologically directed Raman spectroscopy, microfluidic modulation spectroscopy, UV/Vis, FTIR, ESI mass spectrometry); biophysical analysis (microscale thermophoresis for binding affinity, nanoDSF for protein stability, rheology, BET surface area and pore characterisation); imaging and particle characterisation (laser diffraction, static and dynamic particle image analysis, microscopy-based and AI-assisted image analysis); pharmaceutical testing (dissolution, friability, angle of repose, Andersen cascade and NGI impactors); plus flow cytometry and elemental analysis.

  2. Both sides of the table

The technical specialist who knows what a method resolves, and the market specialist who knows how a capital purchase gets approved. The double background is the differentiator.

  3. Deals lost as well as won

A useful part of the education. Knowing why a lab kept a working machine is more instructive than knowing why one bought a new one.

  4. Now, one practitioner

Particle Analytx exists so a startup can buy senior marketing judgement without buying an agency structure around it.

How I work

Precision over persuasion

Numbers carry their units and their technique. A claim that cannot be qualified gets cut rather than softened. If the research says your target market is wrong, you hear it in week three.

I do not run samples and I do not sell testing. I advise on which method answers your question and which instrumentation covers it — which keeps the advice independent of who gets the work.

Tell me the market and the question.

Questions

Questions about the practice

Who runs Particle Analytx?

Matthew McGann, President and Owner. He spent eighteen years in analytical instrument sales and marketing before founding the practice, working on both the technical side — specifying and demonstrating instrumentation — and the commercial side.

Is Particle Analytx an agency?

No. It is one practitioner. There is no account team, no handover to juniors, and a deliberately small number of concurrent engagements.

What technical areas does the practice cover?

A broad range of life science characterisation techniques for biologics and complex molecules: chromatography and separations, light scattering, spectroscopy, biophysical and thermal analysis, imaging and particle characterisation, and pharmaceutical testing. In practice that covers molecular weight and structure, aggregation and polydispersity, binding affinity and kinetics, protein stability, particle size, shape and count, surface charge, and rheological behaviour, and thats just the starting point.

Which industries has Matthew worked in?

Biopharma, pharma, biotech, analytical instrumentation, specialty chemicals and materials science. Anything with measurable particle content — powders, suspensions, emulsions, foams, gels, slurries, inks, pastes, coatings, catalysts, minerals and food systems.

Where is Particle Analytx based?

The United States, working with clients internationally. Most work is remote, with on-site sessions where a room together is genuinely better.

Does Particle Analytx perform laboratory analysis?

No. The practice advises on which analytical method answers a question and which instrumentation covers it. It does not run samples and does not sell testing as a service.
